(2018 STOPMOTION FILM)

Directed by Flora Xia

IMG_0240.JPG

Mirror Stage marks my second collaboration with my talented friend Flora Xia. I've worked on concept arts, production design, prop and set fabrication of this project. This project demonstrates most of my fabrication skills in carpentry, working with styrene and basic 3D printing.

Mirror Stage is an experimental stop motion film about an once famous film director (Dorian Floyd) driving around Los Angeles in his "mobile studio"-a 70s luxury sedan with a trailer mounted on its rear, filming his next Magnum Opus.

The film is now available on YouTube.

Production:

Illustrations of Dorian's mobile studio, originally it was going to be a mid 70s van, later changed to the "Cadillac RV combination"

SketchUp renders of the interior set

(rendered in SU Podium)

Original 1/64 scale 3D model of Dorian's mobile studio(modeled in Fusion 360). This prop was intend to be used in a freeway scene, several other vehicles were also modeled and 3D printed for the same scene. The scene was later shot, but eventually cut due to pacing reasons.

A 1/32 scale and studio scale prop of the mobile studio were also printed and painted for filming close-up shots. The 1/32 scale car features working lights(pictures in slide gallery), while the studio scale car took nearly a month to print, and features a fully detailed interior with functional doors, however we didn't use the door in filming.

Dorian's camera case and 3D printed electronics.
